Mike Mazanec, DFC Success Story
I can't pinpoint exactly what made me sign up at the DFC. But, I am certain it is one of the best decisions I've ever made.
In July 2005 when I joined at the suggestion of a friend, I weighed around 270 pounds. At 5'11", that was simply too much weight for my frame. My Doctor had been telling me for years that I was unhealthy and that I needed to exercise and change my eating habits. I never listened. I lacked the motivation to change. But, I was lucky enough to find the DFC and a group of amazingly supportive people.
Walking into the DFC is like no other experience I've ever had. The staff is fun and riendly. The group exercise instructors expected a lot of each member, but were always encouraging and willing to help. The first day I joined I honestly thought, "I'll do this once or twice and never see this place again". Unlike the majority of my life when I joined gyms, paid my monthly dues, and never attended, I gave the DFC a chance. And, by taking that chance, the DFC helped me to change my life.
Over the past year, I've tried almost everything the DFC has to offer and I've never been disappointed. Sure, not everything is for me, but I always get a great workout (with good people) no matter what. If you walk past the Cardio room after 5pm, there is a good chance you will see me there, sweating, working hard and having a great time.
Now it is September 2006 and I am down to 190 pounds and I just completed the Rochester Half Marathon. Each day I feel myself getting healthier. Being a part of any gym will always be about losing weight and getting fit. But, for me it is also about being a part of a great group of people who genuinely care about my health.
So, take a chance like I did. Working out is certainly tough some days.
Why not be a part of a gym that truly wants you to succeed? The equipment
is almost the same at every gym, what sets the DFC apart is the people.
