Instructors 

 

Cathleen Bernfield

Cathleen is our Pilates instructor at the DFC. She has her certification through the Pilates Center of Rochester Group. She also holds the Group Fitness Instructor certification through AFAA as well as the Lamond Cycling certification, from Lamond fitness. Cathleen has four years teaching experience in group fitness and dance. Experience one of Cathleen’s Pilates classes and not only will you leave with a great workout, you’ll leave with a new friend!
 

Melissa Buchanan

Melissa Buchanan has a degree in Therapeutic Massage and Integrated Health Care.  She is a certified Turbokick and Piyo instructor and AFAA member.  Melissa Promotes health and wellness through a variety of techniques to benefit any clients active lifestyle. Aiming to keep things fun and fresh.  Enjoy your workout!!

Rick Robbins

Rick is our Turbopump instructor at the DFC. He is certified in Reebok Body Pump as well as Spinning and, in addition to being with the DFC since our beginning, has been leading fitness classes for 6 years at the U of R, Midtown Athletic Club and the JCC . Rick says, “The satisfaction from a great workout is like polishing off a bag of Chips Ahoy (without the guilt!). Fitness should be fun! See ya in class..." Rick also has some of the best music you’ll ever hear!
 
 

Shelley Contento

After dancing for 13 years, Shelley fell into the world of teaching dance and aerobics by other teachers who thought she might have a knack for it. What a perfect way to combine her love for teaching and dance! For the past four years, Shelley has been teaching a range of group exercise classes including step aerobics, kickboxing, older adult fitness, and hip hop/Latin aerobics at fitness centers in college, the YMCA in Webster, and Goddess Hour Dance Studio. Shelley is thrilled to bring her Hip Hop Cardio class to the DFC as well as her new training for Zumba classes! "Exercise is about feeling great and having fun, so working out should be just like having a party...a BIG DANCE PARTY!"                                                                                                                                   
 

John Wagner

John R. Wagner, Jr. is certified by Grand Master William C.C. Chen to teach T’ai Chi. John teaches Master Chen’s short form, sword, push hands and Qigong 18 healing therapies at the Rochester T’ai Chi Ch’uan Center where he is the treasurer. T’ai Chi is an ancient Chinese martial art and is practiced mainly for health and fitness. Other benefits are improved balance and reduced stress. His martial arts experience began with the University of Notre Dame fencing team becoming co captain in his senior year. He started to learn T’ai Chi in 1995 and has been teaching since 1999.
 

Jeffery Young

Jeffery is so recognizable in the Yoga community, that his classes bear his name, Yoga with Jeffery Young at the DFC. Jeffery has been bringing his signature classes to students since 2001. He is a Registered Yoga Teacher with the Yoga Alliance with over 500 hours of training. Jeffery also teaches an accredited course at the U of R, so he is actually our ‘professor of Yoga’. Jeffery teaches a Hatha based, Iyengar style yoga. Dedicated to the highest standards of yoga instruction, Jeffery is quoted as saying, "I believe that yoga is the key in maintaining stellar health and that detailed education of the body, and its workings, is paramount in building a cohesive and rewarding practice. May peace prevail, Namaste.”

Ray Cali

23 years experience
- B.S. in Physical Education from Cortland State and a M.A. from Brockport State
- Certified Personal Fitness Trainer and a Certification Specialist through American Fitness Association of America
- Personal Fitness Trainer Certification workshop presenter for AFAA
- Certified Physical Best Health-Fitness Specialist with AAHPERD
- Has his permanent NYS Teaching Certificate in Physical Education and Mathematics and is a teacher with the Rochester City School District
 

Megan Cormack

6 years experience
- B.S. in Physical Education in Exercise Physiology from SUNY Brockport
- Certified Personal Trainer through American Fitness Association of America(AFAA)
- Certified Aqua Fitness instructor through AFAA and teaches Aqua Fit at the DFC
- Team captain of the gymnastics team and the Most Outstanding Athlete Award for the swimming and diving team
